After years of frustration with other sources, I finally tried OpenOffice Writer to print envelopes. I'm presently using an HP Laserjet 1020, even though I knew that most printing problems I'd seen in the past had occurred when people used an HP printer. However, wonder of wonders, it worked perfectly the first time. No need to change paper or any other such thing; just slip the envelope into the upper tray, properly adjusted to fit, and Voila! Perfect every time.
That was when I was using a #10 envelope. I tried the same thing with a #6, using exactly the same procedures. The envelopes MUST be aligned in the center of the printer tray as the adjustment forces that. This is clearly suitable for the #10. However, when using a #6, the printing occurs to the far left, as it would with a usual 8.5x11 sheet of paper, and there may be nothing, or a faint bit of the bottom characters just making it to the envelope, and so destroying its usefulness.
The solution? ... I'm tired of having ink sprayed off the paper, and using up envelopes in the attempt.
Thanks.
