i am working on several files that require there to be multiple empty columns. Is there a way to auto-hide them all? Going through each one and hiding it individually can be tedious.

You can select more than one (Ctrl+Click) and hide them in one step.

You can use my SpecialCells add-on as a helper.
- First select one row of data with the right combination of blank cells.
- Then call the contents-tool to select the blank cells within the selection.
- Finally, call menu:Format>Columns>Hide
