Predictive Text generator

I hope to develop an extension for Open Office Writer which will predict the words user is typing when user has typed a word half way and present it as a drop down list,
1.For this I need to read the characters being typed in the working area of Writer
2.Generate a list of words using a database of words
3.Present it to the user as a drop-down list of words

What I need to know is,
whether I would be able to develop this as an extension and how can I integrate databases in Open Office Writer extensions.

I would be grateful if someone can help me in this.
