I am having program issues I cannot copy and paste....I can use the keyboard shortcuts, right click or even use the menu and select copy and nothing happens. This problem is happening in all the Open Office programs not just the Calc program. It had been working for me the last time I used the program last week so I am not sure what the issue is. I have even tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling and that did not solve the issue. If I send the file to my husband's pc and open the file in OpenOffice on his pc I can copy and paste so I am not sure what the issue is. Any ideas? I also notice the files I open always open in read only mode and I have to select the edit button to edit them, is there a way around this....I don't want my stuff saved and opened as read only.

I tried changing the user profile already and that did not work!

I did see in the options that I have no JRE associated and I tried to associate one, but it will not allow me too, it keeps saying that there is not one in that folder. Yet there is.....
Do I need the JRE to be able to copy and paste, etc? If so that is my problem.

But as mentioned earlier I can cut text, it will just not allow me to copy and paste. I have even uninstalled and completely removed all the folders I could find and re-installed and I still have issues. I thought maybe it was Windows Vista 64-bit that I am using, but that cannot be the problem, my husband has the same OS and his OO works just fine.

OOo works well without any Java and copy&paste uses to work as a matter of course.
I have no idea what happens to your Windows box. Some clipboard tool, virus, other malware?

I have this same problem. OpenOffice 3.1.1 on 64 bit Windows 7. Not nice to not be able to copy and paste...

I tried recreating a profile. That did nothing to fix the problem. Is this a 64 bit problem?

I don't know if this ever worked as I just started using OO on this machine.

Every time I have this problem I check to see if the sheet is protected, 99.999 % of the time that is the problem.

I have a similar problem. I can copy from clipboard from an outside source once, if I try it again it tells me it can't copy from clipboard. I have to close the file and reopen it to copy/paste again.

Vista 32

old thread --> http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=16816

you can try installing klipper

or work around it;;

1. get 64bit JDK

2. remove ctrl+v from OOO Tools->customize->keyboard

3 run the notepad demo, using the java you installed
/usr/java/jdk1.5/bin/java -jar /usr/java/jdk1.5/demo/jfc/Notepad/Notepad.jar

You can then do a shift-ctrl-c ->shift ctrl v to copy to the Java notepad
Using select text/ copy in the notepad and then ctrl v in openoffice to paste it
