Mac OS X shortcut keys for macros

I'm running OS X 10.6.3 and I'm trying to set up a shortcut key for a macro.

I'm going tools --> customize --> keyboard --> category --> OpenOffice.org Macro --> user --> Standard --> Module 1 --> [My Macro]

Then I'm selecting an unused combination and clicking modify.

I've tried more than 5 different shortcut combinations and I am having 0 success. I know the macro works because I can run it through tools --> macro --> run macro

Impossible on a mac?

I tried a few more shortcut key combos that seemed too obscure to be used for anything. But still no dice.
